What is fructose malabsorption?

There are two types of fructose intolerance. The most common is the form that is caused by insufficient absorption of fructose in the small intestine – known as intestinal fructose intolerance (IFI) – which is also referred to as fructose malabsorption. The insufficient absorption of fructose in the small intestine results in it reaching the large intestine undigested, where it is broken down by bacteria. This process can lead to the formation of gases, which can cause discomfort. People who are unable to tolerate fructose as a result need help to prevent or alleviate their symptoms so that they do not suffer any restrictions in their quality of life in everyday life. Fructaid® was developed precisely for this purpose.

It should be distinguished from the very rare hereditary fructose intolerance (HFI) – an inherited metabolic disorder. Fructaid® capsules are not intended for use in hereditary fructose intolerance. Further information can be found on our website www.fructaid.de.

Fructaid® is highly targeted

Fructaid® is available as an easy-to-swallow capsule. The active ingredient in Fructaid® is the enzyme glucose isomerase. Within a few minutes, the capsule dissolves in the stomach and releases the glucose isomerase pellets it contains. These small pellets mix with the chyme, but are protected from the stomach acid by a coating. The glucose isomerase pellets then reach the small intestine, where they take effect.

The enzyme released from the pellets converts the unabsorbed fructose in the chyme into glucose, thus preventing digestive disorders. Glucose isomerase is neither absorbed from the small intestine nor does it have any effect on the organism. The effect of glucose isomerase is exclusively and precisely targeted in the chyme. Therefore, undesirable effects are not to be feared even with regular and long-term use.
